A jungle classroom is one of my favorite decor themes. Animal-related themes are always a big hit with students and a jungle theme is so much fun. It sparks students’ imagination and is perfect to use as writing inspiration. Not only that, but it is also a great starting point for plants, animals and habitat science topics, geography skills and art, plus so much more! In this post I will share my top ten tips to bring your jungle themed classroom to life!
Jungle Themed Classroom Bulletin Board Ideas
I love using burlap to back bulletin boards. This material is perfect to back your jungle bulletin boards and gives that forest feeling. Its advantage over paper is that is does not get pin or staple holes and you can reuse it over and over again. Just change the borders when you have a new theme for a completely refreshed look!
Wrapping Paper
If you want to go for a colorful jungle themed paper for your bulletin board background, look no further than wrapping paper! With far more variety and patterns than standard bulletin board backing paper, using wrapping paper can open up a whole new world of options and possibilities.
Bulletin Board Jungle Borders
Animal print borders look fantastic with a plain board backing (like burlap) and really make your bulletin boards pop! Use a variety of different animal prints around your bulletin boards for a spectacular effect.
Animal Print Lettering
Like animal print borders, these really look fantastic in front of a plain background. Use my animal print papers to cut your own lettering from.
Fake Plants
Fake plants are wonderful as they require no maintenance, which makes them perfect to use in your classroom jungle decoration. They add a 3D element and bring your theme to life. They help to soften the look of the classroom and give it that cosy feeling, creating a space your students will love being in!
Jungle Themed Classroom Stuffed Animals
Another way to add those finishing touches to your jungle classroom theme! Place stuffed toys such as crocodiles, monkeys or tigers in the reading corner. Your students will love curling up with a good book and a cuddly jungle toy!
Jungle Foliage
Create intrigue with draped jungle vines and leaves. Twist pieces of brown paper to create the vines and drape them around the edges of bulletin boards. Cut out large leaves from green paper and attach them to the vines so they overhang the edge of your bulletin board to give a 3D effect.
Safari Items
Include some safari objects for role play such as safari hats, maps and binoculars. Role playing with these items sparks imagination, which is a great starting point for writing activities.
Topic Books
Now that you’ve sparked your students’ imagination, provide topic information books about rainforests so that your students can carry out independent research and learn more about the topic.
Jungle Sound Effects
If your students work well with background music, why not try playing jungle sound recordings? Sound effects can include a rainforest downpour (very relaxing), animal calls and leaves rusting. This is perfect for when students are working on a jungle themed writing task as it really helps to set the scene and create a more immersive atmosphere.
